FAQ’s about Gaelbhratach
How can I apply?
Please contact Máiréad (email@example.com) in relation to Gaelbhratach at Primary level Scheme or Edel (firstname.lastname@example.org) in relation to Gaelbhratach at Secondary level.
Can both T1 and T2 schools take part in the Gaelbhratach scheme?
Yes, schools that operate in the medium of Irish or English can apply.
How long does it take to get awarded the Gaelbhratach flag?
At secondary level, the flag is awarded after one school year if all the criteria and targets have been achieved.
What happens if we don’t succeed in achieving the flag after one year?
If a school does not succeed in the first year, they are more than welcome to apply again the following year. They will be provided with feedback and advice for the following year.
Are there training or workshops available to schools?
Yes, at the beginning of the school year there will be a workshop/training provided for both teachers and students. They will be guided step by step through the scheme and any queries will be answered on the day.
What kind of events can we organise in the school?
There are a number of events that can be organised throughout the year. For example:
– Coffee morning (through the medium of Irish)
– X factor (through the medium of Irish)
– A quiz
– Christmas play
– Sports day
– A debate organised in the school
– A survey on the Irish language in the local town/village
– Guest speaker
– Talent show
– Events organised with other schools (sports day, quiz, debate)
– Fashion show
If we succeed in achieving the flag in the first year, what happens the following year?
This scheme focuses on promoting Irish in a natural, cultural and and fun way. If a school is granted the flag in the first year, the second year should focus on developing the langauge from there, it should not be a repeat of the first year. More events can be organised and schools can also focus on promoting the language through sport, drama or music. There should be progress made year after year, with each year creating more awareness throughout the school and the local community.
If I require guidance throughout the year, what can I do or who can I call?
Please do not hesitate to contact Máiréad (email@example.com) in relation to Gaelbhratach at Primary level Scheme or Edel (firstname.lastname@example.org) in relation to Gaelbhratach at Secondary level.
